Referencing a "sorrowful emergency" (the death of a family member?), noting that even if Swett cannot help Severn in her sorrow, she does "sympathise with [Severn] with all [her] heart." Expressing sorrow for "poor dear Mrs. Furneaux," noting that "this will come so hard to her, she is so very fond of her own family." Stating that Severn must be sorry to leave Swett's Figlio, John Ruskin, and that Francesca's health is well.
